My artistic philosophy is rooted in the law of energy conservation—the idea that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only transformed. Through painting, I seek to transform the physical energy of creating into an emotional experience, inviting the viewer to feel the movement of each brushstroke, the interplay of colour, and the joy of a work coming together. My hope is to evoke a sense of elation, serenity and peace.
Working primarily in watercolour, I am drawn to still life—particularly teacups, ginger jars and florals—as well as, more recently, landscapes. I enjoy combining soft washes and gentle colour with fine detail, expressive brushwork and intricate patterns, sometimes incorporating ink or gold leaf to add another dimension.
What began with part-time art lessons over a decade ago has grown into an integral part of my life. I completed a Diploma in Watercolour with Merit through the London Art College and have continued to develop my practice through lessons and workshops with accomplished South African artists. My work has been exhibited in South Africa and internationally, with paintings now held in private collections across South Africa, the United States and Europe.
Creating art brings me immense joy. Through my work, I hope to share something of the serenity I experience while painting and, in turn, create a moment of connection and quiet pleasure for the viewer.
